The Andersons
Pappy Anderson
The earliest known records of our branch of the Anderson family starts with a man known only as Pappy Anderson born around 1800 in Louisiana. His children were born in Ruston (Lincoln Parish) Louisiana.
I attended a funeral with Papa Willie “Son” Anderson in Minden, Louisiana in 1960. The church was full with many people standing outside. Papa told me, “These are all your relatives” and that I had many more in Bastrop,Louisiana. It seems reasonable to believe we still have relatives in these areas.
Will (Pappy) Anderson (early 1800s) is the oldest known ancestor of the Anderson family. Pappy was born in the early 1800s in Louisiana had three sons (no record of daughters as of this writing), Henry, Johnny and Willie Dolfus Anderson. The name of his wife is unknown.
The youngest son, Willie Dolfus (1871- ?) and his wife Millie Green (1874-1960) are my (our) Great-great grand parents.
They had 6 children, 4 daughters and 2 sons, Jesse, Levada, Eliza, Lula, Willie Calvin and Winnie Anderson.
Willie Calvin “Son” Anderson (1892-1966), was my grandfather. He married Sylvia Petty (1894-1943). They had nine children, 6 daughters and 3 sons. Bessie (1914- 2006), James Levada (1919-1946), Willie Calvin, Ida Marie (1923-20?), Cora Lee (1926-2002), Gladies, Felton, Helen Lorene (1932-1994) and Millie (1934-19?).
Of the 9 children, only Willie, Ida, Gladies and Felton are with us. We all should take every opportunity to learn of our past from those who are still with us.
